About

Caring for the vulnerable is at the heart of the gospel.

By providing quality, compassionate care in the name of Jesus, we at Macha Mission Hospital (Macha Hospital) proclaim God’s love to people in southeastern Zambia.

Caring for more than 30,000 Zambians each year, Macha Hospital primarily serves subsistence farmers who make less than a dollar a day. The hospital is at the center of the local community: It has eliminated or greatly reduced diseases like neonatal tetanus, leprosy, schistosomiasis, trachoma, and malaria; through its health programs, AIDS is no longer a fatal disease in the region. Two thousand deliveries and 1,500 operations are performed at the hospital each year.

Innovative and respected, Macha Hospital lacks operational funding: The hospital is under the jurisdiction of the Zambian government’s Ministry of Health. The largest financial supporter for the hospital, the Ministry of Health directs monies to pay Zambian staff, provides some medicine, and gives a limited grant for operational costs. The Brethren in Christ Church (BIC Church) in Zambia, who own Macha Hospital, are without the financial means to address the remaining financial needs.

Through your help, we can direct funds where they are most needed: for medical emergencies, infrastructure maintenance, and ongoing operational needs (including purchasing medicine not provided by the government). Your gift will also help support two full-time chaplains ministering to patients’ spiritual needs.

Support us in providing the highest quality medical care to patients and sharing the love of Jesus Christ throughout southeastern Zambia.

Macha Hospital serves a rural population of over 160,000 people. To care for so many patients in such a rural setting requires many resources. In 2023, Macha’s staff treated 30,000 patients, delivered 2,000 babies, and performed more than 2,000 surgeries. In addition, the chaplain program provided spiritual and emotional care to thousands of individuals and families at the hospital and in the community. This magnitude of high-quality care was made possible in part by generous donations to this project.

  • Purchase two industrial cook pots and an industrial stove to provide meals for patients
  • Fill funding gaps to purchase basic hospital supplies
  • Complete the construction of a new operating theater
